Text Box: Opto22 Software

Develop control software, create human-machine interfaces (HMIs), connect to OPC clients, configure I/O, or develop your own custom software to communicate with our hardware.

For firmware, see Support - Downloads - Firmware.

I/O

Input/output. The transfer of data to or from a computer system, involving communication devices, operator interfaces, and/or data acquisition and control interfaces.

In industrial control, I/O means the inputs and outputs coming to and going from the control application:

· Inputs are data coming into the control application from devices, machines, and processes.

Outputs are data sent from the control application to field devices in order to control them.

I/O also refers to I/O points, such as Opto 22 analog and digital I/O points, which are wired to field devices and provide the means to receive data from or transmit data to those devices.

OPC servers and clients

Software applications that use the OLE for Process Control (OPC) standard to exchange data. The same application can be a server and a client at different times or even at the same time. Servers are slaves—applications that provide data or carry out instructions. Clients are applications that request data or give instructions.

Clients can request a connection to the server that is temporary (to read or write a value once) or continuous (to update a value when the data changes, called report by exception). The same network can include multiple servers exchanging data with multiple clients. As long as all are OPC-enabled, the servers and clients can be from different vendors.

Opto 22's OPC server, called OptoOPCServer, is a robust OPC 2.0-compliant server. It can be purchased separately or as part of the PAC Project Professional software suite.

PAC Project Software is fully integrated with SNAP PAC System hardware, reducing development time, effort, and cost.

PAC Project Basic is included in your purchase of a SNAP PAC controller and also can be downloaded from this section.

PAC Project Professional adds network segmenting or Ethernet link redundancy and provides a migration path for Opto 22 FactoryFloorT customers.

ioProject legacy software suite is still available if you need it for older controllers, but PAC Project is recommended for new development.

FactoryFloor legacy software suite is also still available, but PAC Project software is recommended for new development. PAC Project Professional provides a migration path for FactoryFloor customers; the SNAP PAC S-series controller provides backward compatibility with mistic I/O units.

Compare current and legacy software

Developer Kits are for customers who want to develop their own custom software to communicate with Opto 22 hardware.

3rd-Party Integration Kits offer a way to connect to third-party automation systems such as Modbus® and Allen-Bradley Data Highway®.

HMI (Human-Machine Interface)

The means by which a human being interacts with a machine, device, or computer. In industrial automation, usually refers to a graphical representation of a system or process. The HMI appears on a computer monitor or terminal, and an operator or technician can monitor the process and sometimes respond to it or adjust it.

PAC Display is Opto 22's full-featured tool for building and running an HMI. PAC Display is closely integrated with PAC Control (used to build control applications) and uses the same tagname database for faster development.
